Engage: Global Citizens, Global Impact
Advancing Global Citizenship, International Cooperation & Solidarity
‘Engage: Global Citizens, Global Impact’ is a five-year initiative funded by Global Affairs Canada (GAC) that will foster collaboration and knowledge exchange through inclusive public engagement, global citizenship education, capacity strengthening, and policy advocacy activities.
Undertaken by the Inter-Council Network of Provincial and Regional Councils for International Cooperation (ICN) and its eight member councils in collaboration with a broad community of members and partners, ‘Engage’ seeks to catalyze a transformative shift in how people across Canada understand and act upon their roles as global citizens.
Activities will reflect a diversity of approaches and audiences. Collectively, we will offer and seek to co-create:
- Spaces for dialogue, learning and collective action with our members and broader civil society partners
- A coordinated sector voice emphasizing interconnection, reconciliation and shared global systems in solidarity labs, collaborative advocacy platforms, and public-facing research
- Opportunities to learn from and collaborate with equity-seeking communities
- Partnerships within and beyond the international cooperation sector, including with Indigenous, diaspora, newcomer, 2SLGBTQIA+, and disability-focused communities, linguistic minority groups, grassroots social movements, professional bodies, private-sector actors with environmental, social and governance commitments, independent media creators
- Structured youth leadership pathways supporting research and policy advocacy, delegations, ambassador networks and alumni engagement
- Digital storytelling and multi-platform campaigns that amplify diverse voices nationally while maintaining strong local connections
- Educational resources, educator professional development and collaborative learning opportunities that help bring global citizenship education into classrooms and other learning environments
- Community mobilization and digital amplification during International Development Week, key international days and throughout the year
- Pan-Canadian coordination, capacity strengthening and knowledge exchange
Together, we are committed to advancing a more inclusive ecosystem that broadens reach, deepens leadership, and positions global citizenship, international cooperation, and solidarity as shared responsibilities rooted in equity, reconciliation, and systemic change.
