About the Program
The Spur Change program is a 5-year initiative, funded by Global Affairs Canada, aiming to increase the effectiveness of Canadian small and medium organizations (SMOs) to deliver sustainable results in support of the Feminist International Assistance Policy and the Sustainable Development Goals. The main outcomes of the program are to increase the engagement of Canadian SMOs in international development and increase the engagement of Canadians, particularly youth, as global citizens.
Benefit from a range of capacity-building activities such as workshops on the Feminist International Assistance Policy and the Sustainable Development Goals; specialized training sessions on specific development approaches and tools; courses on organizational development; communities of practice; roundtables and participation at the annual Spur Change conferences.
Criteria to Benefit from the Program
All SMOs meeting the following Global Affairs Canada criteria across Canada are invited to participate in the program.
All educators across Canada interested in and committed to inspiring and engaging their school communities towards meaningful, effective and sustainable action on global issues are invited to participate.
- The consolidated revenue in the organization’s financial statements is equal to or less than $10 million (this limitation does not apply to educational institutions)
- The organization does not have annual overseas expenditures exceeding $2 million in development assistance (i.e. projects administered with the promotion of the economic development and welfare of developing countries as their main objective – regardless of the funding source)
- SMOs can be civil society organizations, education institutions, private sector or social enterprises
- SMOs must be legally incorporated in Canada
