Learning Series: Session 1 - Feminist Approaches to Public Engagement and Global Citizenship Education

About the session

Feminist approaches center gender justice, equity and inclusivity, challenging traditional power structures that often exclude or oppress various groups based on gender. This session focuses on how feminist frameworks can inform global citizenship education and public engagement practices, ensuring that gender is not only considered but prioritized in GCE and PE. It emphasizes the importance of creating spaces for conversations about gender, power and representation in practice and policy.

Objectives

The sessions aims to:

  • Explore how feminist approaches can help make global citizenship education and public engagement more inclusive, equitable, and grounded in gender justice.
  • Reflect on how power and representation show up in global citizenship and public engagement work and how these dynamics can be shifted using feminist values.
  • Share and learn from experiences of applying gender-inclusive practices in global citizenship education and public engagement.
  • Discuss practical ways to center gender and equity in global citizenship education and public engagement, especially when working with diverse and marginalized communities.
