Decolonial, anti-racist and feminist public engagement: From awareness to action

About the Campaign

The main goal of the campaign is to create awareness on decolonial, anti-racist and feminist approaches in public engagement (PE) among policymakers, organizations in the sector, and the general public. Throughout the campaign, we will be sharing:

  • Promising practices in PE
  • Strategies that can strengthen the sector's use of decolonial, anti-racist and feminist approaches
  • Recommendations that can inform policy and practice

Public Engagement Modules

The three self-paced learning modules are based on ICN’s research on decolonial, anti-racist and feminist PE. They focus on:

  1. Defining public engagement, feminism, anti-racism, decolonization and intersectionality.
  2. Power, resources, and the politics of language
  3. Centering communities, navigating differences and creating space for critique

Links to each module will be added when they are available!

Blog Series

The blog series spotlights grassroots insights and lived experiences, with a focus on advancing decolonial, anti-racist, and feminist approaches to public engagement. Contributors respond to the central question:

What role can centering communities play in advancing decolonial, anti-racist, and feminist public engagement?

In their responses, contributors draw from their experiences, knowledges, and expertise. They explore how meaningful public engagement can be reimagined through one or more of the following themes:

  • Communities – Who is engaged, how, and why?
  • Resources – What is needed to support equitable and meaningful participation?
  • Dialogues – How can we foster inclusive, transformative conversations across difference?
  • Power – Who holds what power, and how can it be disrupted and reimagined?
  • Language – What narratives are privileged, silenced and/or marginalized, and what are the implications?
  • Critical Reflection – How can we remain accountable, question our practices and commit to ongoing learning?
